Some decades ago I decided to follow the white rabbit... down the rabbit hole. Once you start collecting you stumble over more and more "easter eggs". Hidden secrets that the majority of sceners are not aware of.

Follow me down into the deeper dungeons of scene collectables that you might have never heard of before.

Note: This is not about reviewing releases and it's not about imposing my opinion on you. I simply want to show you some gems that are out there.

Let's begin with the obvious...

Jochen Hippel – Give It A Try [Thalion – THCD 1]

https://www.discogs.com/de/release/1808727-Jochen-Hippel-Give-It-A-Try

Thalion as a record label? Yes indeed... even if there was only one release. I guess you already know Jochen Hippel's 'Give It A Try' album from 1990. This is a hard-to-get-item. Sold on Discogs for 10 to 25 Euros... but you have to find somebody who is selling this.

I managed to buy a copy back then through ASM's (Aktueller Software Markt) mail order catalogue, which was my favourite German game magazine back in the day. All MP3s are freely available on Demozoo but it will be much harder to obtain an original release of the CD in physical form. Self-made copies are floating around in the scene.

They came up as prizes in a competition years ago... Jochen even signed them. One of these copies is in my collection as well.

Let's take a closer look into the tracks:

Joi - Kaos Engine [Vinyl, 12", White Label]

https://www.discogs.com/de/master/3192729-Joi-Kaos-Engine

Can you stop the 'Kaos Engine'? Hold wait? It's 'The Chaos Engine' right? Well the credits inside the game are a bit misleading and are partly wrong, so it is harder to figure out which dance-act did the soundtrack in this case. In earlier Bitmap Brothers releases it was quite clear that it is 'Betty Boo' or 'Bomb The Bass'.

The game credits say "Farook and Haroon Joi" which is not really correct. Correctly it would only be "JOI" because that was the formation that delivered the title-track. The group was formed by the brothers Farook Shamsher and Haroon Shamsher.

Once I figured out who's really behind the title-track I discovered the following release on Discogs. There indeed was vinyl-release of the Chaos Engine title track with additional mixes. As usual with older music, these mixes are impossible to find on the net in any digital form.

It is NOT in my collection yet. Currently there are two sellers on Discogs from the UK. They offer them from 33 to 45 pounds plus shipping plus tax. Do the math.

Nation 12 – Electrofear [CD, Album, Limited Edition][Tape Modern – TPCD8]

https://www.discogs.com/de/release/558885-Nation-12-Electrofear

While we are at the Bitmap Brothers... they used a lot of commercial music that is well known and was even in the charts. When it comes to 'Gods' it is a different case as nobody knows 'Nation XII' and most people are not aware that there was a physical release of the title song. If you are able to purchase a copy of their album 'Electrofear' you should have a listen to track number 8 which is called 'Into The Wonderful'. Welcome to another 'Aha! Moment'. :)

Well for the next release I have just picked a few tracks that relate a bit more to the Atari scene than the others. I will not go too much into detail here as I consider this one as a more known release which makes it not really a deep-dive.
