Ever wondered how Atari 800 game developers were able to create such great games in the 80s on such limited hardware? Apparently a Cross Assembler was used to help out here: The Atari CAMAC Cross Assembler. It was running on a hardware named "Data General MV/8000".

Recently, some historical interested people rebuild the development enviroment using an an emulator and managed to assemble the Atari classic DIG-DUG, as they say, the first time in more than 40 years and apparently, just like (some of) the development was done back in the 80s.

If you like, have a cup of tea and enjoy ;-)

In this context it is even moreย impressive how competitive games were created just by enthusiasts with the poor simple Atari, god forbid with only the cassette recorder. :)
Take e.g.

... done by one guy (R.I.P.) on an Atari with 64 KB RAM and the cassette recorder. He was basically saving his work a couple of times per day, then compiled it after a few days and tested it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that in an Czech interview with him.
P.S. Oh man, I can click on that "Anomymous" and enter my name! Had no idea! ;)
P.P.S. Catchpa with 1 / l / I is so much fun...

Yes, the development on the real thing is even more impressive. If I imagine e.g. ST megademos being developed on the real thing - with all the testing, packing and checking, it seems amazing.
